As you may know, we’ve recently partnered with the fantastic local, online fishmongers, Fish for Thought, and now we’d like to give you the chance to win not only a £150 Fish For Thought voucher but also an incredible holiday retreat, right here in the South West! (You can read more about this amazing prize at the bottom of this blog.)
Of course, when the lovely people at Fish For Thought asked us if we wanted to sample one of their delicious recipe boxes for ourselves, we ‘cod-n’t’ resist! Fish for Thought have a variety of different seafood boxes on offer, from pantry staples to boxes of freshly filleted fish; we were truly spoilt for choice when browsing through their website.
We decided to go for a couple of the Fish Made Easy Kits, as they looked perfect for chucking together in the evening after work. In the end, we went for Cornish Hake with Sweet Potato, Coconut & Spinach Dhal and the Great British classic, Fish & Chips.
A couple of benefits you can enjoy when buying from Fish for Thought are free delivery (with orders over £35) and next-day delivery, which luckily for us meant that we didn’t have long to wait!
The box arrived at home whilst we were at work, but as it was so brilliantly packaged, this was no problem! Fish for Thought have worked hard to create packaging that keeps orders chilled, but are also recyclable. If you’d like to have a sneak peek at the box and the packaging, we posted an unboxing video on our Instagram page.
So let’s get into the cooking; first up, a national favourite, Fish & Chips!
Keeping it simple, the Fish & Chips Fish Made Easy Kit was made up of 4 ingredients:
And the recipe was just as simple; pop the chips in the oven, pan-fry the fish, warm the pea purée and serve it all together with the tartare sauce. Bon Appetit!
In all honesty, it really was that easy-peasy. The trickiest bit was ensuring the fish finished cooking at the same as the chips, but even if you manage to mess up your timings (like I did) you can pop the fish into the oven to keep warm whilst you wait for the chips.
The outcome was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous! We are two big eaters and we were both pleasantly full. I had never pan-fried fish before, but you couldn’t really go wrong, which was very much appreciated.

Next up, the Cornish Hake with Sweet Potato, Coconut & Spinach Dhal!
What we loved about these Fish Made Easy Kits, was the minimal fuss! The Cornish Hake Kit was made up of just 2 ingredients:
With the Dhal prepared fresh and frozen for us ahead of time, it was just a case of defrosting the pouch and heating up the contents, either in a pan on the stove or in the microwave. And the hake just needed cooking on in hot, oiled pan, skin side down, allowing it to get nice and crispy before flipping and cooking the flesh side for a couple of minutes.
If we’re talking about quick, easy mid-week dinners, this Cornish Hake kit was definitely a winner. With just 2 ingredients, we had dinner cooked and on our plates in less than 10 minutes; it also meant there was minimal washing up, which was a bonus!
So if your a seafood fan, we highly recommend that you give Fish for Thought‘s fish boxes a try. But even if you’re not a big fish eater, like myself, there are so many options to choose from, with something for every palette.
