The South West Coast Path
Make your way down to the beach and you’ll find yourself right on the coast path. There are two lovely walks to embark on from here – a short 2-mile walk to Penpol Creek and a longer, yet thoroughly rewarding path to Holywell Bay.

Crantock Beach to Penpol Creek

This short walk offers stunning views of a calm estuary and the wide Atlantic coast. Kids will enjoy the long sandy beach with its dunes, and there are interesting tales about ancient saints and buried secrets to discover. It’s especially nice in spring when you can hear birds nesting and feeding, and in summer, the birdsong in the evening adds to the experience.

Crantock Beach to Holywell Bay

This walk is easy to follow, with clear coastal path markers guiding you to Polly Joke beach. Along the way, you can enjoy the ocean views, watch stormy clouds, and breathe in the fresh sea air. Polly Joke beach, nestled among rugged cliffs, is popular with families and couples. Further along, you’ll reach Holywell Bay, known for its wide beach and stunning views. It’s a favorite spot for surfers, dog-walkers, and families alike.

Where to catch the surf

Crantock Beach
The fabulous Crantock Beach lies right to the front of your apartment and is an easy walk or short drive away. It’s a popular spot for surfing, with consistent waves suitable for surfers of all levels and there are Big Green Surf School nearby offers surf lessons as well as board, wetsuit and SUP hire so if you’re keen to take to the waves or the river, they’ve got you covered.

Huge sand dunes back onto the beach giving it a wonderfully wild and unspoiled setting as well as providing shelter on windier days which means you can enjoy a picnic on the beach, sandcastle-building or sunbathing even if it’s a bit breezy.

Flowing into the sea alongside Crantock Beach, The Gannel Estuary is a tidal river surrounded by nature which creates a truly beautiful spot for swimming and water sports. At low tide, you can walk across the estuary and at high tide you can use the foot ferry which operates seasonally. It’s a scenic way to travel between Crantock Beach and Fern Pit Cafe on the other side.
