While your days away exploring this small coastal village’s narrow streets and painted cottages. Its calm bay is sheltered by the headland and has wonderful views overlooking Plymouth Sound; with a sand and shingle beach edged by rock pools that are ideal for little ones and grown ups to explore.
Four pubs and a Bar Brasserie add a lovely sociable quality to the village where you’ll discover a shop, Post Office and family-run bakery.
The four mile stretch of golden sands at Whitsand Bay is just a short distance away and there are frequent bus and ferry services to the city of Plymouth, with a summer ferry service running directly from Cawsand beach to Plymouth Hoe.
Cawsand is excellently placed for fabulous family holidays, with two sheltered beaches (Kingsand and Cawsand) being ideal for young children to play and paddle. Nearby Mount Edgcumbe Country Park is a dream for children of all ages, offering Alpaca experiences, segway tours, a miniature railway and much more. The gardens and grounds surrounding the house are stunning and offer lots of space for children and grown ups to run free or explore.
Your four-legged friends are welcome on Cawsand Beach with the exception of the period between 1 July – 31 August when a seasonal dog ban is in place between 10am and 6pm.It’s always best to check the signs posted at the beach, as regulations may vary depending on the time of year. The area does have lovely coast path walks which, if you’re visiting in the summer are perfect as an alternative to the beach.
The Cawsand and Kingsand May Day Festival which is hosted at the beginning of spring is a popular event that includes The Black Prince Flower Boat Procession that winds through Millbrook, Kingsand, and Cawsand, featuring a flower-decorated model boat named after the Black Prince. Expect maypole dancing, a fete, Morris dancers, musicians and plenty of merriment!
