Did you know? A local’s guide to holidays in Topsham…

With its proximity to both Exeter and Exmouth as well as its terrific selection of eateries and boutique shops, the pretty town of Topsham which rests on the banks of the river Exe has long been a favourite destination for holidaymakers and foodies who enjoy a quiet slice of East Devon with dollops of atmosphere.

Things to do near Topsham

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the nearby Exe Estuary Trail, while cultural enthusiasts can enjoy the town’s array of community events and festivals throughout the year. Whether you’re strolling along the waterfront, indulging in local cuisine, or simply soaking in the town’s atmosphere, Topsham promises a delightful experience steeped in coastal beauty and cultural richness.

If you’re a nature lover, Topsham delivers on a handful of wonderful spots to watch the sun set above the estuary, while the narrow Goat Walk beside the Exe estuary also offers wonderful views. Hop on to the passenger ferry with your bikes and cycle the flat route all along the estuary; a terrific family-friendly way to get a healthy dose of fresh air too.

Whether you’re fond of simply lying on the beach and sunbathing, or you’re a complete water sports buff, the town of Exmouth is where you can indulge both passions. With plenty of space even on the sunniest summer day, Exmouth Beach is beautiful. Golden sands make this sandy little treasure ideal for creating sandcastles, swimming or exploring those rockpools. The beach has lifeguards during high season, and there are facilities within easy reach of the sand.

If you fancy a change of scene, head to Sandy Bay. This secluded bay rolls on for half a mile of sand, so it’s just the place to unpack a picnic and enjoy some time out from the crowds of summer. Or why not just kick your flip flops off and enjoy a stroll along the shore…Exmouth’s beaches are all about forgetting the rest of the world.

So proud of its excellent food and drink, the town and community celebrate with an annual Topsham Food Festival held down at the quay in June where local producers, chefs and restauranteurs showcase their skills, and offer up delicious creations for all to sample.
