Eager for some rest and recovery, I set off with one of my closest friends for a quiet break away from the city chaos. With just over an hour’s drive from Exeter, Cheddar was the perfect location for us as it wasn’t a long or demanding journey. With our stay being in the height of winter we couldn’t wait to get cozied up in a warm and rustic lodge.

We got there early afternoon and had the rest of the day to settle and unpack. As we arrived at Strawberryfield Park a sense of excitement was growing as we drove past gorgeous lodges, anxious for ours to be revealed.

Stepping inside I was amazed at how much bigger Perry Lodge was in person. With a practical and stylish layout we felt at home straight away. My friend and I were like big kids, running around arguing over who had what bedroom, although both bedrooms were as lovely as each other.

It wasn’t until we unpacked that we were able to have a proper look at the outdoor space, which personally was the highlight for me. With a sleek and almost ski chalet vibe, the outside decking and hot tub area felt so grand and luxurious. In the evening more so. As it got pitch black the magical star lights by the seating area made you feel worlds away.

Although we were only away for 2 nights we wanted to make the most of our time there, so we set off early the next morning to Cheddar Gorge, driving through and soaking up the local area.

With wildlife parading alongside the car and being surrounded by such charming and quaint landscape, it was a great way to kick off the day. As lunchtime grew closer we headed to Bristol, which was just over a 40-minute drive.

Fancying a more vibrant and populated atmosphere we ventured to Cribbs Causeway. After quite a few hours of eating and shopping, the hot tub was calling! As soon as we got back to the lodge we dropped all our bags and jumped straight into the hot tub.

After a day of walking the hot tub was the perfect solution for winding down, made extra special with a glass of prosecco; what more do you need to relax?

As our stay was drawing to a close a sense of sadness grew. However, as much as the both of us didn’t want to leave, this break had allowed us to rejuvenate and switch off from our busy lives. We were happy leaving knowing we were completely refuelled and refreshed. This was the perfect place for a mini friend getaway.
