The Million Mile Clean will have a lasting impact on our oceans and natural surroundings but in order for this to happen it will need individuals like you, as well as companies and whole communities to become involved.
We caught up with Surfers Against Sewage to find out what the Million Mile Clean 2021 is all about and how anyone can get involved to help clean up our blue and green spaces for a healthier, cleaner planet.
After more than a year of isolation, social distancing and reduced physical activity, the team wanted to create an empowering campaign to reconnect people with the ocean, help restore wellbeing and provide a unique physical challenge. We want to revitalise people’s relationship with nature, not simply because it’s good for the environment but because it’s good for them too.
Created in direct response to the pandemic the Million Mile Clean is the most ambitious and impactful community clean ever, involving 100,000 volunteers each committing to clean 10 miles of coastline, rivers, streets and mountains throughout 2021. The hope will be that people are reconnected with the ocean and their natural surroundings, whilst also restoring wellbeing as the UK emerges from winter and the recent lockdowns.
Yes! From individuals and families to businesses and schools, we’d love to see as many people taking part as possible. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #MillionMileClean so we can see what you get up to.
It’s not just beaches that need our help. We want to be cleaning one million miles of beaches, rivers, streets and mountains to protect the environment from the growing problem of plastic pollution. It’s our biggest and most ambitious clean ever and we’d love for you to take part!
It’s super simple. Sign up here, register a clean, pick a date and then do it!
