The South West Coast Path

One of the country’s best-loved national treasures, the South West Coast Path is England’s longest waymarked footpath at 630 miles long beginning at Minehead on the edge of Exmoor and ending on the shores of Poole in Dorset.

Originally used as a patrol route by the19th century coastguard to restrict smuggling, the Path has in modern times become an integral part of the local communities and tourism, providing both residents and visitors with an incredible way to get outdoors and experience the beauty of the south west coastline.

It is used by millions of people every year whether for exercise, mental well-being or sightseeing while connecting all to some of the finest coastal landscapes to be found anywhere in the world.

Self-catering holidays on the South West Coast Path

This collection of cottages can be found within easy reach of the coast path to offer guests the very best combination of luxury accommodation and outdoor adventure. For families there are easy, flat routes to explore with some parts passing through National Nature Reserves and Heritage Coasts, five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, two World Heritage Sites, a UNESCO designated Biosphere reserve and a Geopark, as well as one National Park.

For those guests holidaying with their dogs, having the coast path within easy reach is a real bonus. The sights, sounds and smells of the Coast Path make it an absolute haven for our four-legged friends and it’s a great way to make sure they get the exercise they need, along with a healthy dose of mental stimulation, the chance to socialise with other dogs and the opportunity to bond with you.

Accessible routes

The South West Coast Path Association who manage and maintain the coast path believe that everybody should be able to enjoy exploring our stunning coastline so with that in mind they have singled out Easy Access routes for people with limited mobility.

A number of routes in various sections have been selected and have been divided into the following categories:
• reasonably level (without steep gradients or significant cambers)
• relatively wide (with a width of at least 85cm / 2’6″) and
• largely obstacle free (no steps or stiles, but possibly some gates)

Many of these routes are accessible for people with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and pushchairs.
