Things to do in Teignmouth

Teignmouth’s position on the coast of South Devon means a short hop to some of the area’s best bits including beaches, attractions and landmarks. However, if you’d prefer to stay put during your time here, you’ll have plenty to do without having to go very far at all.

Teignmouth Lido (May to September)
This 25 metre outdoor pool which has recently been refurbished and re-opened to the public is a terrific way to enjoy the warm weather with all the family. There’s plenty of seating available as well as change rooms, lockers and vending machines for drinks and snacks.

The Den

There’s also an award-winning refurbished children’s play area (with wet play available during the summer), an adventure golf course facility, a food kiosk and football pitches. Tennis courts and lawn bowls are available for hire.

The Triangle
What’s a holiday without a bit of shopping and eating out thrown in? The Triangle is the best place for both and is a pedestrianised area in the heart of the town where you’ll find a mix of independent and high street shops to peruse as well as restaurants and café’s with outside seating.

Walking
The South West Coast Path cuts a scenic trail along the sea wall next to the train line, with Sprey Point at the halfway mark, being a fabulous spot for photo opportunities of the bay. Another great walk is Eastcliff Walk to Mules Park which is a fabulous area for dogs and their owners, with plenty of benches available and bins to dispose of mess.

Visit Dartmoor National Park
Dartmoor is slightly further afield but well worth the journey. This world famous national park with its rugged landscape of tors and heathland is just a 30-minute drive away. Perfect for both serious hikers and family outings (depending on where you choose to visit). Dartmoor is strewn with excellent country pubs too.

Shaldon
Just a 5-minute drive over the bridge, this small seaside village has a similar pace to Teignmouth and is a lovely day out. If you’re travelling with kids, a visit to Shaldon Zoo and Shaldon Botanical Gardens is a good way to while away the hours. For a touch more adventure take the historic Teignmouth-Shaldon passenger ferry from Back Beach across the estuary instead. (seasonal)

Torquay
Just a 15-minute drive away, Torquay is a much bigger seaside town offering attractions such as Cockington Country Park, Torre Abbey, and the Babbacombe Cliff Railway. The main town surrounds the harbour which has several very good restaurants including Rockfish and The Elephant. Stroll the promenade past formal gardens and Victorian fountains while taking in views over the marina.
