As a company, our commitment is to operate in a way that positively affects the future of our industry, our people, local communities, nature and the environment.
By supporting the local area and giving back, we aim to enhance the region not only for our guests, but also for the people like us who call this special place home.
By being open about where we are right now and by asking ourselves where we want to make improvements in the future means we’re constantly evaluating if what we’re doing is the best practise, and if not, then how we can do it better. As we learn we aim to share our experience and hope to inspire others to follow in our footsteps.
We started Luxury Coastal to be a force for good, to create a business centred around fairness and doing things the right way, therefore working towards B Corp certification became a natural step for us.
The process has enabled us to scrutinise our current practices and has given us a clear framework of ways to improve. The next step is for us to submit our Business Impact Assessment with a view to certify in late 2024.
Our people are at the heart of Luxury Coastal and have helped make the business you see today. One of the first things we did after employing our first team member was to become Living Wage accredited, so everyone who works at Luxury Coastal receives a fair wage. Our Employee Assistance Programme offers a wide range of benefits for our team, from mental health and wellbeing support to fitness and store discounts, and our team have the option to work from home to give more flexibility and to help achieve a better work / life balance.
We take part in the Best Workplaces in Travel programme which gives us insight on how to improve our working practices. We’re delighted to have achieved a 100% net promoter score for the third year in a row which is a wonderful testament to the environment and ethos here at Luxury Coastal, as well as the amazing people within our team.
We take great pride in living and working in the South West and we actively support independent, small businesses that make the region such a wonderful place for our guests to visit.
Our LC Loves Local initiative helps us to encourage our guests to spend with these businesses when they are on holiday, helping to keep our small coastal communities thriving, many of whom rely on a healthy tourism industry.
We form partnerships with like-minded businesses who help to protect and restore our natural environment here in the South West.
Till The Coast is Clear is a Community Interest organisation clearing the coast of plastic pollution, improving the condition of our natural environment, and connecting people with the environment. We also partner with the South West Coast Path Association, the charity responsible for maintaining and restoring our much-loved national trail.
We have always wanted to give back to our community, which is why we partner with two businesses that are very close to our hearts. Our team also has 4 volunteer days each year to use at an organisation or charity of their choice.
Alongside the volunteering work we complete with our partners, we have given over 100 volunteer hours to our community which is something we’re very proud of.
In working through the B Corp Business Impact Assessment, we recognise that our environmental impact is the area that requires the biggest improvement. From our office space and holiday homes, to promoting more responsible travel with our guests, we have plenty of ideas that we feel will help us affect positive change and have set goals to work towards over the next 12 months.
We have identified 5 key objectives to aim for during 2024/2025 that will help us improve our impact. You can read what these are and how we plan to measure and achieve them in our Environmental Management Plan.
We also need to understand our Carbon Footprint and will aim to calculate this and have set reduction targets during 2025.
We acknowledge that this is a journey therefore identifying where we are now and where we want to get to is all part of the process, giving us a clear plan to a better business for all.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or if you would like to hear more about our journey.
