With sand and sea that stretch for miles, beautiful scenery and fabulous food, Woolacombe is an enticing spot for a holiday. What would spending 48 hours in this lovely part of the world look like? Let’s find out.
Morning
If you’re in the mood for brunch but also itching to get down to the beach, then head to Porthole Café on Marine Drive. A terrific little kiosk with seating inside and out, it’s open 7 days a week from 9:30am to 4:30pm and has one of the best views overlooking the dunes and ocean. The menu consists of various deliciously filled sandwiches, tacos, savouries and sweet treats.
There’s a footpath from Porthole Café straight down to the beach. Pick a spot, roll out your towel and unwind. Take a dip in the Atlantic before drying off in the sunshine, read your book or have a nap – bliss!

Afternoon
If you fancy simply spending the day on the beach relaxing, we hear you. However, if you’re in the mood for a walk, stay parked on Marine Drive and make your way up to the coast path. There’s a great walk from here to Baggy Point, passing above Putsborough Beach. The route is around 2.6 miles (one way) and rated as mostly flat and easy on the South West Coast Path website. Needless to say, the views are rather spectacular so make sure your phone battery is fully charged!
Evening
Just around the corner from the main beach lies Barricane Beach, a little clear-water cove that’s flanked by rocks and strewn with seashells. This is a lovely spot for sundowners or an evening picnic. Between April and September, the beach café (which has an excellent reputation) serves a scrummy Sri Lankan curry from 5pm – 7pm, weather permitting. With that view—barefoot dining doesn’t get better.
Morning
Pop into town for breakfast at Meraki Coffee Co, just off the main road near the beach. Grab a flat white, turmeric or beetroot latte to wash down your bacon bagel or Bircher bowl.
Feeling adventurous? Book a session with Woolacombe Surf Centre (just around the corner from Meraki). Whether you’re totally new to surfing or looking to polish up your skills, the instructors here are said to be the highest qualified in the area, so they’ll have no problem getting you out there carving up the waves. All equipment is provided so you’ll just need your cozzie, towel and sunscreen.

Afternoon
Nab a table on the terrace at The Barn on Beach Road – right opposite the main car park. Right in the heart of the action and with a great view of the beach, you can tuck into some seriously good pub grub while watching the world go by. Expect surf-inspired décor and crowd-pleasing classics like burgers, fish & chips, and loaded nachos.
Save room for dessert (coming up!)
Time for some fun? Stroll over to Funder Island next door for 18 holes of Pirate mini golf. Round off the afternoon with an ice cream sundae from Big Chief kiosk.
Evening
Round off the weekend with drinks at Bar Electric. It’s got a cool, surfy vibe and a great cocktail menu (plus local beers and live music if you time it right). Grab a seat by the window or out on the deck, and enjoy your drinks as the sun sets.
