Few places compare with the tiny seaside village of Mousehole which settles in its own quiet corner of beautiful Mounts Bay in Cornwall. Known for its pretty harbour and charming atmosphere, Mousehole has an air of old worldy charm about it, and if you’re looking for somewhere special to completely unwind for a few days (or weeks), we can’t recommend it highly enough.

If you’re travelling to Mousehole via Newlyn, the coastal road will treat you to some incredibly wide and spectacular views over the bay, after which the streets narrow and wind their way down to its harbour. Along the way you’ll pass small boutiques selling all things Cornish, as well as tiny tea shops sea-facing restaurants and coffee cafes.
Once settled into your Mousehole holiday cottage, these are the places where you’ll be whiling the hours away, as well as of course, the harbour’s edge for ice-creams, sunbathing and photo ops. Lined with traditional Lamorna stone cottages and flanked by its two instantly recognizable breakwaters, at low tide the harbour basin reveals a lovely little beach, ideal for children and grown ups to paddle in the shallows or build sandcastles.
With so much to see and do in the area, a holiday in Mousehole really is everything it’s cracked up to be. Wander the 4.8-mile section of coast path to Lamorna Cove spotting the local flora and fauna along the way. The walk passes through the woods of a nature reserve and around the headland of Carn Du, and from here the ocean panoramas are spectacular.
The beaches of Porthcurno and Marazion lie within easy reach too, so if it’s a sandy break you’re after, Mousehole makes a fantastic base from which to visit the very best beaches in the area. For children there are a wealth of activities on offer too. Take a trip to the bay’s iconic St Michael’s Mount and savour the views back towards land or enjoy a fascinating day at the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum where you can interact, explore and discover the amazing story of our connected world, and how a tranquil valley in Cornwall became host to the past, present and future of worldwide communications.
Huddling right on the coast, it goes without say that some of the properties within the village come with outstanding sea views, and our collection of cottages offer some of the best. From its position high up over the bay, Mousehole View is the perfect place to stay if you like spotting the sea’s changing moods from the comfort of your living room. Or of you like to be up close to the water you’ll love Mariners Cottage and Tides Reach, both of which have lovely front terraces that overlook the sea so you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner with the sound of the sea lapping below.
