Truro holidays offers something slightly different for a Cornwall getaway. Though not right on the coast, they’re a well-placed, easy-going option that gives you access to everything you’ll need for a fabulous break.
As Cornwall’s only city, Truro has more going on than most — shops, restaurants and culture. You can walk it, take your time, and not feel rushed, so it suits longer stays, or anyone wanting a quieter alternative to the busier coastal spots.
Location is another great reason. Set in the centre of Cornwall, Truro holidays make it easy to explore both the north and south coasts without long drives or committing to one area, so every day can be a completely different experience.
The city centre is compact, with high street brands, independent shops, cafés and regular markets. Truro Cathedral sits at the heart of the city and is worth seeing while you’re there, as is a visit to the Royal Cornwall Museum, and strolling Victoria Gardens.
Beyond the city centre is where Truro really comes into its own. You’re close to both coasts, so you can choose a different one to suit your plans. On the North coast, Porthtowan Beach and Portreath Beach are around 20 minutes away, while on the south coast, the quiet creeks and calm waters of Feock and the Fal Estuary are 15 minutes’ drive. This is also where you’ll find the National Trust’s Trellisick House and Gardens – a quiet spot with stunning coastal views.
Truro offers a mix of smaller independent eateries with a few standouts for every occasion. Sip Wine Bar is worth booking if you want something a bit different, with a menu that leans towards Persian and other Eastern flavours. Bread & Butter works well for a good coffee, casual breakfast or lunch, while the historic gastro pub Wig & Pen serves exceptional locally sourced food and expertly crafted drinks.
For gorgeous seafood, Hooked! Truro is one of the best choices in the city, and if you’re after a bottomless brunch or a Tomahawk steak, The Long Store on Lemon Street is the place. If you plan on doing some home-cooking at your self-catering holiday home in Truro, you’ll love the Farmer’s Market on Lemon Quay which is held ever Wednesday and Saturday.
