October half term is done and dusted, Halloween ghouls have recoiled and the clocks have rolled back into their winter slumber… so can we finally start talking about Christmas? We think so. In fact, we are just a tad excited about the onset of winter and this year’s festive season; so much so that we have decided to share our excitement with the LC Loves Local Guide to Christmas.
Our guide will cover all things festive in the run-up to the big day and into New Year’s Eve celebrations. We’ll share our favourite Christmas markets, crafty workshops and unique events that can be found here in the South West… we’re talking enchanted trains adorned with lights, hundreds of Santas lined up ready to embark on the famous Boxing Day swim, and everything in between.
We’ll bring unique gifts from some of our coveted independent businesses and finest artisan food producers, as well as the best high streets to shop independent. Excited? We are.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect to see over the next few weeks as we guide you through the build-up to the big day.
Shop Indie this Christmas
There’s never been a better time to discover the best of your local area and shop independent this Christmas. Our regions are full of the most talented and passionate business owners offering bespoke products and one-off gifts, many of which are sourced or handmade right here in the South West. In the lead-up to the big day, we’ll be showcasing our favourite high-streets to shop independent this season.
LC Loves Local Gift Guide
Forget the reindeer socks or obligatory box of Quality Street, our LC Loves Local Gift Guide will combine the finest gifts from our most-loved local businesses. We’ll scour the streets for unique gifts, delicious hampers, and one-of-a-kind experiences to make Christmas morning one to remember.
The traditional Christmas market has gained in popularity over the last few years and is now a firm favourite in our festive social calendars. Mulled wine, Bavarian-style chalets and local craftspeople come together, creating a joyous spectacle not to be missed.
If you’re planning a festive break this year, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to events. Many of our big attractions will open their doors after dark, with spectacular light shows and magical themed events. And of course, we expect Santa to make an appearance as he finishes his list!
Christmas Craft Workshops
Raise your Christmas craft-game with one of the many creative workshops available this year. You’ll find wreath-making workshops from our finest florists and Christmas table decoration masterclasses. You can also create your very own festive tipple at one of the South West’s top gin schools.

The South West has always had a reputation for fine food, so when you add Christmas into the mix, all you foodies out there are in for a real treat. We’ll help you select the most sought-after artisan produce that will elevate your Christmas feasts and will provide delicious gifts for friends and family.
