Fowey, aptly rhyming with ‘joy’, is a truly lovely place to spend at least 48 hours.

Tucked into Cornwall’s stunning south coast overlooking the River Fowey, scenic river views are on constant display. We want you to have the best time here — so we’ve put together a 48-hour itinerary of some of our favourite places to see and things to do.

Day One

Morning

Start your day with a delicious brekkies and coffee at Brown Sugar Cafe. Sit by the window or outside and watch the world go by. After breakfast, linger on the Town Quay – a lovely spot to soak up the atmosphere, and views.

Meander down to the Whitehouse Slip along the Esplanade and hop on the little Polruan Ferry . It runs every 15 minutes in season (or from Town Quay at other times of year). Explore Polruan’s narrow lanes, ancient castle ruins, and stunning coastal views.

Afternoon

If you’re in the mood for a lovely lunch, walk just 2 minutes up Fore Street to the historic Noah’s Ark building. Olive Branch Deli serves Middle East-inspired, fresh and wholesome lunches (they do picnic hampers too if you’d prefer to find a spot overlooking the river).

When you’ve refuelled, you can while away an hour or two, perusing the shops and galleries on Fore Street, and grab dessert in a cone from Ruby’s Ice Cream. Make sure you pop into Webb Street Company, Pebble & Salt, and Shrew Books — all on the South Street side of town.

Evening
An evening stroll along Fowey’s Esplanade is a must, with lovely views down to the river, and beautiful cottages lining the way. Pintxo on the Esplanade is the place for dinner, serving delicious tapas and wines with authentic Spanish flair.

Day Two

Morning

Today you’ll need your walking shoes as you head out to explore the beauty of the area on foot. Head to Organicafe for a rich and delicious coffee, then board the Bodinnick Ferry.

Once across the river you’ll see the signs for Hall Walk – a beautiful 4-mile circular trail with stunning views, gentle woodland paths, and a couple of short ferry rides to complete the loop.

Afternoon

Leaving the ferry landing in Fowey, stop in at Captain Hanks on North Street for a seafood lunch. Nab a riverside table and savour the views.

Ready to relax? Where better than on the beach. Readymoney Cove is about 20 minutes’ walk away but it’s a pretty one. St Catherine’s Castle is a walk up from the beach— the views across the estuary and sea from here are out of this world.

Evening

Round off your day with dinner at Bufala on Lostwithiel Street – Pintxo’s sister restaurant. Their thin and crispy Romana-style pizzas are superb.
