Mousehole is quite possibly one of Cornwall’s most attractive and charming villages. With its pretty harbour, quaint cottages and sea views, it’s an irresistible blend of natural beauty making it an ideal destination for a short break no matter the season.

To help you make the most your stay here, we’ve created a weekend itinerary packed with our favourite places and activities, so you can savour every hour of your time in this delightful place.

Day 1: Coast path and gardens

Morning

Breakfast at Mousehole Deli Kitchen

Now that you’ve settled into your Mousehole cottage, pop down to Mousehole Deli Kitchen which is the perfect place to kick off your first morning in the village.

This lovely little deli sits on North Cliffs and is right above the harbour. On the menu are dishes like the Full Cornish Breakfast or a Breakfast Sandwich, which can be enjoyed along with an organic artisan coffee.

Mousehole to LaMorna Cove walk

This circular walk along the South West Coast Path takes in the beautiful scenery along the Mounts Bay coastline but is on the challenging side. In total it’s just under 8km (4.7 miles) but there’s a great little pitstop midway, La Morna Cove Café which overlooks the cove, where you can recharge with an ice-cream, sandwich or slice of cake.

Visit to the Minack Theatre

If you had a less energetic weekend in mind, why not take the 30-minute drive to the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno. With incredible views over the Atlantic and a stunning exotic garden, this outdoor amphitheatre is a must-visit attraction for your Mousehole jaunt. (Pre-booking is essential for the theatre and garden visits)

Afternoon

Explore Trengwainton Garden

Drive less than 15 minutes to Trengwainton Garden. Wander through beautiful gardens, and take in the stunning views out to sea. The well-maintained trails, lovely gazebos, and serene atmosphere make for a peaceful afternoon. Visit the on-site café and shop for refreshments and souvenirs.

Evening

Dinner at The Ship Inn

After a day of exploring, head to The Ship Inn for dinner. This terrific pub overlooks the harbour and offers a delicious menu, which showcases the best local produce. Choose a seafood dish like their Crab & Chilli Linguine or traditional Fish & Chips, or a meat dish like steak or burgers.

 

Day 2: Scenic Experiences and Local Food

Morning

Early Morning Walk

Start your day with an early morning walk along the harbour and pop into The Mousehole curio shop along the way – it’s been around since the early 70’s and is a well-known stop-in on The Quay.

Coastal Cruise with Cormorant Cruising

Leaving from Mousehole Harbour this lovely boat trip with Cormorant Cruising gives you a chance to explore the beautiful scenery around the village of Mousehole onboard the Cormorant.

Round Penzance on the north route and take in views of St Michael’s Mount and across the bay. Or cruise south to Lamorna Cove with distant views of the Tater-du Lighthouse. Keep your eyes peeled for basking grey seals, dolphins and sea birds along the way.

Cream Tea on the Harbour

After the cruise, nip into Jessie’s Dairy on Fore Street (just a minutes’ walk from the harbour) for their cream tea in a box which you can take down to the harbour and either enjoy on a bench overlooking the sea, or from the beach.

Afternoon

Polgoon Vineyard Tour

Less than 15 minutes drive from the village and overlooking Mounts Bay, Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard produces a range of award-winning, artisan Cornish wines, ciders & soft drinks is a lovely place for whiling away a few hours. Book a guided or unguided tour of the vineyard, and/or wine-tasting.

The Spring/Summer tours run from April to September while the Autumn/Winter tours run in October/November. If you’d like to extend your visit, settle in for a gorgeous lunch at their Vinehouse Restaurant which offers home made pizzas as well as light bites like the Cheeseboard and Bruschetta.

Lunch at Orange Café Bar (Plant-based option)

If you enjoy plant-based eating then Orange Café Bar is a must. This cool, laid-back spot is rated ‘superb’ on Google and besides serving incredibly tasty dishes, also offers a selection of tasty cakes and cocktails.

Evening

Dinner at 2 Fore Street

For your final evening in Mousehole dine in at the very popular seafood restaurant 2 Fore Street. This fabulous place offers a varied menu of delicious dinner options like Cornish Fish Stew with Saffron Potatoes, and Shell Roasted Scallops with Spiced Lobster Butter. Pair with a glass of wine or a Tarquin’s Cornish Connie Glaze vodka spritz.
