This tiny village with a long stretch of pebbly beach and turquoise sea as its backdrop, settles on the beautiful South Hams coastline. Within striking distance of both Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, holidays here can be slow-paced and beachy, or activity packed. Wondering what 48 hours in Torcross might look like? Let’s find out.
Morning
Just a few minutes’ drive from the village you’ll find the brilliant Stokeley Farm Shop and courtyard. Enjoy a delicious breakfast before perusing the various independent shops – all of which focus on local makers. Pay South Hams Brewery a visit during your stay too. It’s a working brewery next door to the farm shop and has real ales and ciders on tap.
Afternoon
Take a short drive (or a beautiful coastal walk) to neighbouring Beesands where you’ll find Britannia At The Beach – a popular food shack with an excellent reputation for fresh seafood. Pick up takeaway fish and chips, then picnic on the pebbles with uninterrupted views across Start Bay.

Head back to Torcross for a walk around Slapton Ley, taking in picturesque views and birdlife. Thee circular route around the lake (around 4.2 miles) is mostly flat and there’s no real starting point, so just begin where you park.
Evening
Round off your day at nearby Blackpool Sands with a session in the seaside sauna followed by a saltwater swim. Nab a table on the terrace of the beachside restaurant and savour a drink and supper with stunning views over Start Bay.
Morning
Wander down to The Boathouse which sits right on the seafront, for breakfast with a view before hopping in the car and enjoying a scenic short drive to Dartmouth. Amble the pretty streets, browse the shops, or simply soak up the atmosphere beside the River Dart.

From here, hop on the Dartmouth lower ferry to cross over the river to Kingswear. The trip is short but it’s a lovely (inexpensive) way to enjoy views of both towns from the water. Make your way to the Steam Packet Inn for a delicious lunch overlooking the marina and river (about a 2-minute stroll from the ferry terminal).
Afternoon & Evening
Take an evening walk along the seafront as the sun sinks into the sea – the long, level sea wall makes it perfect for a sunset wander.
Round off your stay with dinner at the Start Bay Inn, a cosy, family-run pub that’s famed for its generous portions and fresh seafood – the fish and chips here are legendary.
