Bes known as the English Riviera since the Victorian era, Torquay is a lovely place for holidays on Devon’s south coast. A large seaside town with attractions galore, you’ll have plenty to see and do during your stay here. Our 48 hour itinerary gives you a taste of life in Torquay as we highlight some of our favourite places to eat and visit.

Day 1: Exploring Torquay

Morning

Begin your day at Me & Mrs Jones Deli in Wellswood, a popular spot which is favoured by locals. They serve freshly brewed coffee, hearty breakfasts like eggs on sourdough toast, and a tempting selection of pastries in a warm and eclectic setting.

Afternoon
Head to Torre Abbey Sands, the town’s main beach. Whether you take a dip in the water or relax on the sand, it’s a great spot to enjoy the views over the bay. If you fancy a picturesque stroll we’d suggest Cockington Village and Country Park, with its huge green, woodland walks, rose garden and thatched stone cottages. Enjoy a cream tea at Weaver’s Cottage Tea Garden—don’t forget it’s cream first in Devon!

Evening
For dinner, our favourite seafood restaurants is No. 7 Fish Bistro and Wine Bar which overlooks the harbour. This family-run eatery receives rave reviews for its fresh, locally sourced seafood. Try the grilled sole, scallops, or a seafood platter paired with a glass of wine.

Day 2: Sea, sun and strolls

Morning
Head down to the harbour and book a ticket for a ferry ride on The Western Lady (seasonal) to Brixham. The journey across the bay is lovely and will treat you to stunning views of the coastline. Spend a little time exploring Brixham’s harbour, marina and Breakwater.

Afternoon
A short drive will take you to Babbacombe, a quieter area of Torquay with its historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway that transports guests down to Oddicombe Beach. Stop in at the boutique pub and restaurant Cary Arms for a drink overlooking the sea. If you’re a foodie, you won’t want to miss the chance to experience lunch at the Michelin star Simon Hulstone’s The Elephant. The set menu offers excellent value, with dishes like tender roasted meats, fresh fish, and fabulous desserts.

Evening
Take a leisurely walk along the seafront, taking in scenes of the beautiful marina and its yachts, then wander on past Princess Gardens with its manicured flower beds and pretty fountain – the perfect place for a couple of photos. The big Ferris wheel is a terrific way to get a birds-eye view of the town and sea if you don’t mind being high up.
