Here are 5 dog-friendly walks with foodie stops in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset you have to try.
The walk: Explore the wild and windswept dunes of Holywell Bay as you make your way along the South West Coast Path. This circular route is 4.7 miles with some of the best beaches in Cornwall en route.
The foodie stop: Holywell Beach Bar is right behind the dunes and is the perfect spot to rest weary feet and paws. Dogs are of course very welcome, and the menu includes lots of delicious light bites as well as sweet treats for you to tuck into.
Stay in Holywell Bay
The walk: The perfect addition to your St Ives holiday. This 4.4 mile circular walk via St Michael’s Way starts from St Ives Station and heads along the coast path towards Lelant. Enjoy superb coastal views and ancient landmarks along the way.
The foodie stop: The Old Forge in Lelant has an excellent reputation and is the perfect spot for a pizza or pasta. With a cool and casual atmosphere you and your dogs can enjoy some well-earned relaxation.
Stay in St IvesThe walk: An easy 3-ish mile walk along the seafront which runs from the Jubilee Pool in Penzance along the promenade to Marazion. Dogs will need to be kept on leads but can run free on the beaches at Long Rock and Marazion!
The foodie stop: The Mexico Inn is opposite Long Rock beach just off the promenade towards Marazion. It’s super dog-friendly, serves delicious grub, and the beach is right opposite which means pups can have a dip and frolic before you head onwards.
The walk: A superbly scenic start to your walkies adventure. The pretty riverside village of Dittisham is your starting point after which you’ll pass through woodland and pasture, so lots to get tails wagging. A short ferry trip across the River Dart gives you a beautiful vantage, before arriving back at Dittisham.
The foodie stop: The Ferry Boat Inn sits right on the riverfront in Dittisham and is one of the best dog-friendly pubs in the area. Enjoy a roast dinner inside or pizza outside when it’s sunny.
Stay in the South Hams
The walk: The Gorge Circular Walk is about 3.5 miles and takes roughly 2 to 2½ hours, but it’s well worth the trek! Moderately challenging and with some steep sections but your doggos will have a ball exploring.
The foodie stop: For a delicious cream tea stop in at Lion Rock Tea Rooms in Cheddar village. It’s at the base of the gorge, so its an easy stop after your walk. Dogs are allowed inside the restaurant as well as outside.
