Just a short stroll from the shore, days are spent lazing on golden sand, swimming, and relaxing. Set on the eastern side of Trevose Head near Padstow, Harlyn’s sheltered location makes it one of Cornwall’s safest beaches, which is ideal for water sports lovers including those who are learning to surf. Even better, The Harlyn Surf School which sits right on the beach, offers lessons, boards and wetsuits so taking to the water is completely hassle-free and fun.
Surrounded by stunning natural scenery, the landscape is one of rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, and tide pools ideal for discovery. Walking is also a popular sport in the area, and enthusiasts will find plenty of scenic trails leading from the beach including the route to Mother Ivey’s Bay, and along Trevose Head, where the cliffs provide stunning views toward Pentire Head and Newquay.
If you fancy a meal out you’re in for a treat. The Pig at Harlyn serves up a delectable menu using fresh ingredients from their own kitchen garden as well as from local suppliers. And if you’re a fan of seafood their seasonal Lobster Shed is a wonderful way to enjoy sunshine dining in the summer. Being so close to Padstow means you’ll have even more choice. A host of terrific eateries are here including tea rooms, fish and chips cafe’s and restaurants by renowned local chefs Paul Ainsworth and Rick Stein.
Water sports
This wonderful beach is a popular spot for water sports with ideal conditions for surfers of all levels and abilities. Harlyn Surf School offers surfing and paddleboarding lessons as well as guided coasteering. Guided sea kayak tours are also offered which is a great activity for all the family to explore the nearby bays and sea caves. Harlyn Surf School operates from June to mid-September.
Walking
The South West Coast Path has several routes around Harlyn Bay, including one to Trevose Head for views of the ocean and cliffs. The path also connects to other beaches like Booby’s Bay and Mother Ivey’s Bay. For a longer walk, you can head towards Constantine Bay, passing more cliffs and beaches along the way.
Golf
With far-reaching views across the Atlantic, Trevose Golf & Country Club is a beautiful place to indulge your hobby. There are three courses to try, each with varying levels of difficulty: the Championship Course, Headland Course and Short Course. The Championship Course is a challenging 18 holes and is ranked as one of the best links courses in Britain.
