Just a 10-minute walk from your front door, Fistral Beach is one of the UK’s top surfing destinations but is loved just as much by sunworshippers and families. It has a beautiful setting too and is backed by high cliffs and dunes, with the Headland Hotel forming an instantly recognisable landmark as it perches overlooking the sand.
Famous for waves that can reach between six and eight feet, the beach hosts several of the UK’s biggest surfing competitions including the National Surf Championships and Boardmasters Surf & Music Festival, but it’s just as good for beginners when conditions are calmer. Several surf companies have set up base right on the edge of the sand like Fistral Beach Surf School which offers both lessons and equipment hire.
At low tide, the beach exposes a collection of rock pools that are perfect for keeping young explorers entertained, and with several restaurants to choose from including Fistral Beach Bar, The Fistral Stable and the seasonal Sea Spray Fistral, the whole family can enjoy a delicious post-beach meal, with epic views over the Atlantic.
Located in The Pentire Hotel and less than 10 minutes’ walk from your apartment, this restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere and a menu that includes favourites such as pizzas, burgers, salads, and fish and chips, as well as daily specials inspired by the fresh, local delicious produce. Grown-ups can enjoy cocktails on the terrace, while children can tuck into a yummy hot chocolate or a milkshake. The restaurant recommends booking in advance to guarantee a table.
A 5 minute drive from the Ocean I development, Concho Lounge is a casual café with a cool vibe. There are sofas to sink into inside if you’re just popping in for a drink, as well as tables outdoors and in where you can kick back and indulge in a smashed avo and poached egg on sourdough, or a chunky stacked burger with fries and slaw.
Also a 5 minute drive from your apartment, this niche restaurant specialises in Cheeseburgers and Milkshakes. Run by ‘real foodies with years of cooking experience in the fine dining world’, the emphasis on the menu and atmosphere is FUN, so the food on offer is daringly simple yet done to perfection. High quality ingredients are the star of the show which is why the food is simply superb! They have a huge local following too which is testimony to just how good they are, and they also serve a small breakfast menu which gets the thumbs up from diners.
