Holidays in Brixham are perfect for four paws as well as two feet. Right on the South West Coast Path, you can wander miles of wooded tracks with stunning sea views, while hidden dog-friendly coves lie waiting to be discovered along the way. And when pups have had their fun, you’ll find restaurants and cafés a-plenty where sandy paws, and salty fur is welcomed.

Day One

Morning

Start your day with a walk along the breakwater to the lighthouse – a flat and easy stroll with great views over the bay. Back at the beach, pups can enjoy a quick dip to cool off before you enjoy brekkies at Breakwater Bistro overlooking the beach. Dogs are welcome inside and out.

After breakfast, wander over to Bertie and Crew on the marina. It’s a homeware and ladies’ boutique with a great range of dog accessories too. Dogs get a biscuit and a cuddle when they visit.

Afternoon

Take the Western Lady Ferry across the bay to Torquay – dogs may travel for a small fee. The trip only takes around 30 minutes, and you’ll have lovely views of the bay along the way.

For lunch, walk over to Offshore Restaurant on Torquay Harbour. It’s dog-friendly with plenty of outdoor seating and water bowls for thirsty pups.

Back in Brixham, walk the coast path to Churston Cove which is loved by local dog owners. Stop at Fishcombe Cove on the way – a pretty spot where dogs can have a paddle. (Be mindful of resident seals though)

Evening

Round off the day at The Prince William overlooking the marina. Sit outside if the weather’s good and take in scenes of the marina and prom. Dogs are welcome outside but there’s limited indoor dog-friendly space

Day Two

Morning

Head up to Berry Head Nature Reserve for a morning stroll and breakfast at the very dog-friendly Guardhouse Café. Berry Head has some of the best views across the bay, and there are plenty of short trails around the headland to stretch your legs afterwards.

Afternoon

Explore the replica Golden Hind ship on the harbour and take your canines along on leads. (Suitable for smaller breeds). Walk 5 minutes to the Brixham Heritage Museum (free entry) for a glimpse into the town’s fascinating past – dogs are welcome.

For lunch, try The Larder on Bolton Street (2 minutes’ walk). It has a small secret garden out back where dogs are welcome with open arms. Water bowls provided, and there’s even a doggy dish on the menu.

Evening

For your final evening, enjoy a relaxed seafood supper at Shoals overlooking the lido.
