Overview

Just 3 miles from Cheddar Gorge, 8 miles from Wells and 10 miles from Glastonbury, the village of Wedmore is perfectly placed within the beautiful county of Somerset. Tucked between the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels, the surrounding area is an absolute joy for those who enjoy outdoor activity, with two nature reserves nearby, as well as the River Axe and River Brue, the Mendip Hills, and Levels offering many trails and tracks for both walking and cycling.

Formerly the village chemist, Apothecary Cottage has been lovingly transformed into a stylish bolthole for two, where vintage elegance meets modern comfort. Step inside and you're greeted by a moody palette of soft greys and inky blacks. Antiques like old medicine bottles and ornate mirrors nod to the building’s storied past, while clever lighting and curated décor add a dash of Victorian drama. A woodburner flickers in the corner, inviting you to unwind on the plush vintage sofa after a day of exploring.

Being a period property, the cottage though small, has now been cleverly redesigned with an open-plan living space that flows into a charming kitchen, kitted out with everything you need. Handcrafted wooden worktops, elegant tableware, and a dining nook for two, sets the mood for an intimate breakfast or a candlelit dinner. Up the ornate spiral staircase, the bedroom lies beneath vaulted ceilings and beams. A supremely comfy king-size bed promises lazy mornings and peaceful nights, with views stretching out over rooftops to the distant Mendip Hills. This room has its own en suite with a spacious walk-in shower. Outside, a pretty courtyard garden offers a private spot to enjoy your morning coffee as you plan the day's excursions.

A beautifully preserved market village dating back to the Medieval period, those who are familiar with its cottage-lined streets, delis, antique shops and boutiques, will tell you it’s a special place indeed. The village centre itself is just a short stroll from Apothecary Cottage and here you'll find two fabulous places to eat - The George Inn and The Swan. For its countryside location, Wedmore is surprisingly close to the coast, with beaches like Brean, Berrow and Weston-Super-Mare being about a 20 to 30 minute drive away.

Whilst the property is pet friendly, the courtyard garden is not fully enclosed so dogs will need to be kept on leads.

Great Somerset base for walking and village facilities.
4.8/5

We enjoyed our stay here very much and were happy to be greeted with Prosecco and chocolates! The house was lovely and had everything we needed. We loved Wedmore. It's an attractive village in a lovely setting and has lots of good facilities including a gallery, independent shops and a chemist. The local shop is impressively well stocked, The pubs and restaurants offer good food. The Bluebird cafe and bar has regular live music and we were impressed by their sourdough pizzas. We did lots of good walking and for the first time finally heard a bittern!! A walk on Brean Down and a trip to the Somerset levels is recommended. There are a number of very good National Trust houses, parks and gardens in striking distance. A place to return to.

Stunning Stay
5/5

We had a fabulous stay in the gorgeous apothecary cottage. A very cute, well equipped cottage that had everything we could have needed and more. Lovely details with the welcome drink and chocolate and communication with the owners was great when needed. A unique stay with lovely details such as the spiral staircase and a great outdoor area for a summer stay. Location is perfect both within the village and so much to see and do just 20min drive in any direction. Cannot recommend this place enough.

The cutest cottage in Somerset
5/5

We were so lucky to find this cute cottage available on a bank holiday august weekend. The cottage has everything you will need for the perfect stay. The welcome gifts were very much appreciated and a lovely touch. Even the dog had welcome treats. 10/10 for clean and comfortable and parking for one car. Wedmore is a lush little village with a 5-10 minute walk to the local 2 pubs that were dog friendly. Great location too for near by cheddar, wells,Glastonbury and Clarke’s village. We didn’t want to leave
