Overview

Within easy reach of St. Michaels Mount and just a few miles away from the market town of Penzance it provides a wonderful base from which to explore the coastline and attractions of west Cornwall.

Elegantly furnished and thoughtfully equipped, the cottage offers two spacious upstairs bedrooms (one with a king size and one with twins) to provide sumptuous sleeping for four guests. The cottage’s private garden is secluded and enclosed with a lush appearance derived from its array of established plants; and has a picnic bench that makes for a relaxing place to enjoy a morning coffee, evening drinks or outdoor dining.

Generously proportioned and open plan in layout, the ground floor incorporates a tasteful sitting room complete with traditional cast iron log burner, a roomy L-shaped sofa, a beanbag and a Smart TV. The dining area with its handmade hardwood table, chairs and bench seat is the perfect place for sharing meals, while the kitchen, which comes fully stocked with a range of cookware, utensils and appliances, makes whipping up home cooked creations a breeze.

*This property has a maximum occupancy of 4 which includes infants

**Please be aware that although the garden is enclosed, the back fence is made from wire mesh that has been chosen to extend the views out over the fields and springtime flowers behind the property. Dogs will therefore need to be supervised when outside.

Honest review
3.8/5

The accommodation is good, offers plenty of space and is generally clean but sofa & oven needs a good clean. Log fire & hot tub are perfect after a day out exploring. Kitchen could be better equipped for self-catering, lack of basic utensils and small fridge with compartment freezer. The garden patio could do with a jet wash. The hot tub was clean but I think had a little too much chlorine in it. The sofa is ok, but could be better. The beds are really comfortable, clean & fresh. Overall we had a great time and were able to feel comfortable and relax. A few tweaks could be made.

Hi Chris, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review regarding your recent stay. It’s wonderful to hear that you had a great time overall. We’re delighted that you found the accommodation spacious and generally clean. However, we apologize for any oversight regarding the sofa and oven. We’ll ensure a thorough cleaning to make them sparkle for future guests. The log fire and hot tub are indeed perfect companions after a day of exploration. There’s something magical about unwinding by the fire or soaking in warm waters under the open sky. Your feedback about the kitchen is valuable. We’ll take note of the need for better-equipped utensils and consider expanding the kitchen essentials. After all, self-catering should be a breeze! A jet wash for the garden patio is on our to-do list. Freshening up the outdoor space ensures that guests can fully enjoy the surroundings. We appreciate your observation about the chlorine level in the hot tub. Striking the right balance is crucial for the safety of our guests and they are checked when filled. While the sofa is functional, we’ll explore ways to enhance its comfort. On the bright side, the beds have received your seal of approval – clean, fresh, and oh-so-comfortable! In summary, we’re thrilled that you felt comfortable and relaxed during your stay. Your feedback helps us fine-tune the experience for future guests. Best wishes, The Luxury Coastal Team

Great location, poor execution
3.2/5

Location of the property was fantastic, easy driving distance from all of the places we wanted to visit and not far from a variety of shops. Hot tub was a nice way to relax at the end of a long day. Overall finish of the property was quite shabby, there were multiple areas where plaster had not been sanded but just painted over, the floor downstars had scratches all over it and the stair railing was really loose at the bootom. The front door had dropped making it difficult to open and close. The oven trays were dirty with burnt on food with no foil to cover them. The extractor fan in the bathroom could also use a good clean. The toilet seat in the bathroom didn't even fit the toilet, to be honest it wasn't worth having!! The back garden would have been amazing but for a few small improvements to the fencing, it is a lovely size but just not safe for a small dog! The fencing at the back has rolled up in places where our dog could have easily got through (yes he tried) and would have had full access to a main road. I don't mind supervising my dog in the garden but we had to keep him on a lead at all times because it wasn't safe.

Curated Egg - Good in parts!
3.2/5

Cottage booked for 4 adults, 1 infant and 3 dogs. Fortunately 2 adults and 1 dog were unable to attend! The cottage has beautiful rooms up stairs and a good kitchen area. The sitting room area is barely adequate for 2 people and certainly not support 4 adults. The sitting supports 2-3 people with difficulty and is tired and uncomfortable. The biggest issue is the property is not dog friendly. The courtyard has no gf area and leads straight onto the A30. Similarly the back garden chicken wire fence has holes leading on to the A30. Overall a very disappointing hire.

Aval Dor Barn
4.8/5

The settee was too small for 4 adults. The borrom rung on the gate on the stairs was quite hard to get past going up the stairs. The kitchen could have had more plates and other essentials, not enough to use the dishwasher. The welcome basket was lovely. The hot tub was very good. In a great location for visiting St Ives and all the surrounding areas.

A short stay away
4.2/5

A great stay in a nice little cottage, the cottage had all the required amenities and a nice little welcome hamper. Hot tub was an added luxury and nice for an evening soak. Location as a base was perfect for dotting around some of southern Cornwall's key spots, no more than 10-15minutes away from St ives and only 5 minutes from Marizion to name but a few. Plenty of parking and overall a nice break away. Only things noted for improvement would be for instructions for the hot tub, especially temperature control :D. And also a lack of wall hooks and hangers in the bathroom/around the bedrooms for hoodies jackets towels etc. especially for a home that could house 5/6 family members (1baby) Would definitely recommend a stay at this little gem

Fantastic place for a getaway
5/5

We had a brilliant time in Cornwall staying at Croft Hooper. The location is ideal, with Penzance, St Ives, Lands End and so many gorgeous places in between all no more than 30 minutes away. The cottage itself is fantastic - had everything we needed and was very comfortable and spacious. Can tell the owners really put in the effort to keep it modernised and in good repair that is always appreciated.
