Some of the best Brixham attractions have got to be its laidback charm and gorgeous scenery, but there’s plenty to keep you and the kids busy during your holiday when you’re not tucking into fish and chips. If you follow the South West Coast Path from the harbourside, you’ll wander your way to Berry Head National Nature Reserve. Pop into the bird watching hut and watch the waves crash against the cliffs below and you might just spot one of the seals that call the area home.

If you’re something of an Agatha Christie fan, you’ll find Greenway, her former summer retreat tucked into the countryside just a short drive away. A popular Brixham attraction all year round, the house and gardens are owned by the National Trust, and they’re just as Dame Agatha left them.

Beaches in Brixham

One of the nicest things about the beaches in Brixham is that the area’s coastline is peppered with little stretches of sand. Every beach and cove has its very own character, and everyone has their favourite. For those of you who like to find a spot far from the madding crowds, head to Fishcombe Cove. This shingle beach is backed by cliffs, so the waters are calmer than some of the others.

For popularity and convenience, it’s got to be Breakwater Beach. Just a short stroll from the harbour, this one scooped another Blue Flag in 2018. With a Seaside Award and a nod in the Good Beach Guide, it’s easy to see why this is one of the best-loved Brixham beaches! And then there’s Churston Cove. The kind of sleepy cove that the Famous Five would have gone crazy for, this one is a little tricky to get to (not ideal for pushchairs), but you’ll be rewarded with some of the bay’s most breathtaking views.

You only have to mention Brixham to a foodie and their eyes will light up. The restaurants in Brixham make it their business to showcase the fresh fish and produce from the region in all its glory- and they’ve got it down to a T. Brixham’s pretty harbour is lined with restaurants and cafes, and you can wander into any one that takes your fancy and expect a warm welcome followed by a sumptuous meal. Dining in Brixham may be a laidback affair, but it’s all about enjoying the very best of the region.

Rockfish is owned by celebrity chef Mitch Tonks, and we have to say he knows how to serve up the British classics with a twist. Beamers serves up classic seafood dished with beautiful views across the harbour, or the Breakwater Coffee Shop is a firm favourite for a pit stop during a busy day.

Dog Friendly Brixham

So laidback it’s almost horizontal, it’s no surprise that the dog friendly Brixham scene is a thriving one! Dogs are welcome on many of the area’s beaches, and we can’t think of a pub in the town that wouldn’t welcome a four-legged friend inside too. Fishcombe Cove and Shoalstone Beach are dog friendly throughout the year, so much of your time will be spent throwing sticks and enjoying the waves together.
