Overview

Torcross is a beautiful little coastal village in the South Hams, best known for its unique position between Slapton Ley and the three-mile-long shingle beach overlooking Start Bay.

Arranged over three floors, this holiday home has ample space for four guests. There are two lovely bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which is an en suite), a nicely kitted-out kitchen, and a spacious top floor living room with a dining area. Next to the front door there’s a small, raised terrace where guests can enjoy a morning coffee, and a lower terrace with outdoor furniture, if you fancy relaxing in the sunshine before going out to explore.

The well-known Start Bay Inn is a two-minute amble along the seafront, so if you fancy good wholesome food within a traditional coastal pub setting, this is the place. Nearby, Stokely Farm Shop serves fantastic breakfasts as well as wood-fired pizzas, home-made pies, seafood dishes and Sunday roast. Their Deli is also a great way to stock up on a few locally produced treats to pop into the fridge at your apartment.

17 At The Beach is paws-friendly, which is terrific news for holidaymakers and their pets. Slapton Sands allows dogs all year round, while Slapton Ley makes for a scenic excursion with pups in tow. Of course, there’s also plenty of coast path to explore too, as well as the nearby towns of Dartmouth and Kingsbridge.

    Good Housekeeping Bond or Accidental Damage Waiver
    We ask our guests for a £100 Good Housekeeping Bond, pre-authorised against your credit card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved and then released afterward if there is no damage. We will contact you nearer the time of your arrival to arrange this. 
    Alternatively, a one-off, nonrefundable Accidental Damage Waiver of £30 can be added to your booking to replace the Good Housekeeping Bond and can be added as an extra when processing your booking.
    Pets: 2 pets allowed, £40 per pet per week, in line with our house rules we do ask that pets are not left alone in the property, do not use the furniture or go in the upstairs/bedroom areas

    Linen & Towels: Bed linen is provided for your stay, however, if you require use of the travel cot you will need to bring your own cot linen. Each guest will be supplied with one hand towel and one bath towel for their stay. (If your holiday is longer than 10 days, please contact the Luxury Coastal team to discuss a mid-stay linen change)
    Wi-Fi: This property offers free Wi-Fi for guests. In a recent speed test, the download speed was recorded at 33.7mbps and the upload speed 8.61mbps, as with all Wi-Fi networks we are unable to guarantee speed and connectivity.
    Coffee Machine: Dolce Gusto pod coffee machine
    Smoking: All of our properties are non-smoking and we ask that any party member who smokes, do so off the premises.

    17 At The Beach is a three-level home. The entrance to the property is at ground floor level (via 8 steps) however there is a lower ground floor.

    Flat screen Smart TV with Freesat and DVD player. Netflix and Amazon Prime are available for guests to log in using their own details

    Appliances include an electric oven and grill, electric hob, under-counter fridge with ice box, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, Dolce Gusto coffee machine, washer/dryer, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner

    Located on the ground floor, this room has twin beds, mirror, side tables and reading lamps as well as a wardrobe

    Located on the lower ground floor this room features a king size bed, sofa, Smart TV, bedside tables, bedside lamps, mirror, open wardrobe and chest of drawers
    This bedroom has its own en suite

    Located on the lower ground floor this room has a double shower, hand basin, WC, heated towel rail, shaver point, cabinet and mirror

  • Outside
    There is a small area outside the front door with a bistro set for two. Please note that this area is visible to passers by and is not private. A communal table and chairs are also available on the lower level
  • Parking
    There is a maximum of one parking space in the development's car park just across from the building
    There is additional parking at the front of At The Beach which is free on a first come first serve basis
    There is also a long stay pay and display car park which is a few minutes walk away

Welcome to At The Beach, Torcross

At the Beach occupies a prime position in the sleepy South Devon village of Torcross, perfect for those who like to kick-back and relax. Many of the apartments have wonderful views out to sea or across to Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, a haven for wildlife throughout the year and, as the name suggests, you can be on the beach within minutes.

Not one for dogs or people who don’t like stairs

Underwhelmed by the apartment which didn’t suit our requirements. Would have been helpful to know that the lounge is on top floor, kitchen too small to eat in on ground floor and main bedroom in the basement. In order to eat you have to carry all your food plates etc along the hall, up the stairs and across the room to the table - same again when you want pudding and to take stuff downstairs again. Main bedroom also down steep stairs with windowless bathroom at the back. Not good for people who struggle with stairs or dogs. Also felt £50 charge for 2 small dogs for 3 nights was excessive. There is no private outdoor or green space - just a very small bistro table outside the front door which is a thoroughfare for the other flats in the building.

To help guests make informed decisions, we do state in the property description that the property is arranged over three floors with the living and dining area on the top floor, the kitchen and second bedroom on the ground floor, and the master bedroom located on the lower ground floor. We also note that the outdoor space is communal, and we’re sorry this wasn’t what you had hoped for.
