Arguably one of Cornwall’s best known coastal towns, St Ives is a dream destination for holidays by the sea. If its quaint boutique-lined streets and wonderful atmosphere don’t draw you in, its beautiful beaches, iconic harbour and pristine bay most certainly will, so it’s easy to see why visitors the world over would choose to stay here year in and year out.

In the sought-after Downalong area, the oldest and most historic part of the town, and just a short walk from the beach, you'll find the charming Mariners Cottage which sleeps six guests over three floors. A small, traditional fisherman's cottage, the property has been refurbished to offer an open plan living room, an amply equipped lower-ground kitchen, and a separate dining room. The bedrooms include a double bedroom on the first floor, and a second double bedroom as well as a twin on the top floor, with all three having an en-suite.

Tastefully furnished and decorated, the rooms though compact, are light, bright and airy thanks to whitewashed original stone and a calming colour scheme of blues and naturals. Equipped for all seasons, a feature gas fire in the lounge keeps things toasty during the cooler months while sash windows throughout the property let the sea air in when it's warm.

Besides a fabulous foodie scene and plethora of wonderful blue flag beaches, there are plenty of attractions in St Ives for those fabulous days out, all of which are on the property's doorstep. The Tate St Ives perches right beside Porthmeor Beach, so you can take in some of that famous art scene and then step out onto the sand, or if you fancy a walk you’ll have many great coast paths to choose from including the 1.9km route to Carbis Bay. Further afield but easily reached by car lie the villages / towns of Lelant, Hayle and Gwithian, each with their own great atmospheres and fantastic sandy beaches.

Good Housekeeping Bond or Accidental Damage Waiver
We ask our guests for a £150 Good Housekeeping Bond, pre-authorised against your credit card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved and then released afterward if there is no damage. We will contact you nearer the time of your arrival to arrange this. 
Alternatively, a one-off, nonrefundable Accidental Damage Waiver of £30 can be added to your booking to replace the Good Housekeeping Bond and can be added as an extra when processing your booking.
Pets: 2 pets allowed, £40 per pet per week, in line with our house rules we do ask that pets are not left alone in the property, do not use the furniture or go in the upstairs/bedroom areas

Linen & Towels: Bed linen is provided for your stay, however, if you require use of the travel cot you will need to bring your own cot linen. Wi-Fi: This property offers free Wi-Fi for guests, however, we cannot guarantee the speed and connectivity. Therefore, if you are planning to work during your holiday, we recommend bringing a wifi dongle.
Smoking: All of our properties are non-smoking and we ask that any party member who smokes, do so off the premises.

We have just stayed for 2wks at Mariners Cottage which is perfectly situated on Back Road East. We were 3 adults, 1 child and 1 dog. The cottage itself is in serious need of some TLC. Open all the kitchen doors and you will know what I mean - exposed cables and poorly fitted units. The fridge is not correctly secured in its cabinet so be careful opening the door as the whole unit wants to jump out. The lack of skirting boards in the living room is just poor finishing and exposes gaps and mess. The dvd player and dining room chest of drawers were non-existent - not that this had any bearing on our holiday. Outside - the shed door needs attention and the agent should really remove all weeds and make the outside areas more attractive (See Downalong Cottage, 2 doors down for comparison). Whilst we appreciate it is peak holiday season the condition of the cottage did not warrant the price. Despite these negative points, which are simple to address, this COULD be a beautiful holiday cottage if the owner invested some of their money

A very comfortable, well appointed cottage in a great location

We were a group of three couples and Mariners Cottage was ideal for us. The cottage has three good sized double bedrooms and it was great having an en suite with each one. One has a small bath which is a bonus. The location of the cottage is perfect. It is just a short walk from the main harbour road and round the corner from beaches and the St Ives Museum. Great restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops are just a few minutes walk away. And it is about 15-20 minutes walk from the railway station. The cottage is well equipped and we appreciated the welcome basket of food and drink. I would definitely book this cottage again and recommend it for friends and family visiting St Ives. The only downside was the poor WIFI which was a problem and could not be resolved by the housekeeper. One solution was to have breakfast etc at the excellent Sloop Inn, a few minutes walk away, and to use their WIFI instead.

We were very much looking forward to our break in St Ives, and we did have a great time but The overall cleanliness and a few maintenance issues within the cottage, I will list so they can be addressed before the summer season. 1 - White paint flaking off all walls. 2 - The fridge kept falling out of the integrated cupboard when opening the door. 3 - The small outside area hadnt been cleaned ever! 4 - When we hoovered the hoover stank, the filter hasnt been changed. 5 - On arrival there was either coffee or team stains on the floor, this shows it hadnt even been mopped. 6 - First floor bed only had one sheet with no mattress protector on a very soiled mattress. 7 - All showers were dirty and stank of sewage. 8 - thick dust and hair on all skirting boards. Whilst in an amazing location and well equipped this certainly isnt a luxury cottage!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our half term week in St Ives. The Quirky Cottage is in an amazing location and offers lots of character, its just a short walk to the harbour and beach, perfectly positioned for our family including our two dogs. Inside we found it very well equipped which allowed us to have nights in as well as enjoying the numerous places to eat in St Ives. I would highly recommend.

A cosy cottage in an excellent location

Lovely little cottage right near the beach, less than an a minute walk to the harbour beach. The house is really comfortable and freshly decorated. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need, which in some houses isnt always the case. The phone signal and WiFi isnt great so its a nice opportunity to reduce the phone and tablet usage for the stay.

The property does not have three usable bathrooms

This property is quite shabby in places and could do with a proper clean. The bathroom in the top floor bathroom (the one with the bath) is not fit for use. The shower only has cold water coming out of it, despite a plumber attending during our stay and attempting to fix the problem. There is peeling plaster on the upper floor walls and the property is overdue a renovation.
