A bustling fishing port until the mid 16th Century, the picturesque village of Mousehole nestles on the south coast of Cornwall between Penzance and Land’s End.

Today, its narrow, winding streets are lined with small shops, galleries and restaurants, while a pretty harbour edged with traditional, granite cottages crouches protected from the prevailing storms by two imposing breakwaters that give it its distinctive shape. Perfectly in keeping with Mousehole’s fishing port heritage, Mariners Cottage is an original 18th Century fisherman’s cottage with a charming, whitewashed facade and staggering views from every sea-facing window.

Recently refurbished and elegantly updated, this lovely home offers a bright and inviting space, with a combination of coast-inspired décor and authentic features, that create a chic and relaxing atmosphere throughout. Arranged over three floors, two lovely bedrooms can be found upstairs with a gorgeous master bedroom on the first floor and a sumptuous twin room on the upper. Both rooms have crisp, high quality linen and feature large sash windows; perfect for taking in the sweeping ocean scape views and enjoying the ever-changing moods of the sky. Downstairs, the delightful living area in calming, neutral tones is open-plan with the well-designed kitchen, and has an inviting sofa and two occasional chairs arranged cosily around a fabulous woodburner*.

Stepping out through the stable door to the front of the cottage is a fantastic, enclosed waters’ edge garden with wonderful far-reaching views over Mount's Bay towards St Michael's Mount and Lizard Point. Comfortably furnished with a table and plenty of seating, it’s the ideal place for fresh-air dining or for enjoying a glass of bubbly while watching the sun set over the water.

The Parade Car Park on the outskirts of the village is a privately owned facility so prices are subject to change however current charges (as of 2021) are £9.00 for an overnight stay. Please note that parking here is strictly monitored and even slight overstays are heavily fined. Please bear in mind that on-street parking is scarce as the village’s streets are very narrow. At very busy times when these car parks are full, the village of Paul which is located up a steep hill at the top of Mousehole Lane is an option however the walk up is strenuous.

Before you book one of our Mousehole holiday cottages, you need to know one thing. The name of this beautiful little resort is pronounced ‘mowzul’. Now that’s cleared up, let’s begin. Arriving in this sleepy fishing village is a little bit like stepping into a fairytale. Found just three miles from Penzance, Mousehole is one of those destinations where time seems to stand still. Boats bob in the harbour, waves lap the beach and cafes serve the catch of the day. If you want to experience the Cornwall of days gone by, this is the perfect place to do it.

Fabulous Position

We very much enjoyed our stay in Mariners Cottage which is in a fantastic position overlooking Mounts Bay and the little sea front terrace is lovely. The house is sweet but the ground floor feels a little tired and cluttered. The bedrooms are better but the two single duvets on a double bed were rather strange. Never encountered before. Bathrooms clean but some of grouting in shower is black. Car access is very difficult.

The location is one of the propertys biggest attractions, with beautiful views and a lovely setting. One thing to be aware of is the access and parking situation. There is no dedicated parking close to the property, which made transferring our luggage challenging. Finding parking on the road locally is difficult, and the nearest car park (costing £10/day) has limited spaces, with some of the spaces being quite challenging to park in. This didnt detract from the beautiful location and views, but it is something worth bearing in mind when planning your stay, particularly if you are travelling with a lot of luggage or have mobility issues.

Mariners cottage is quite simply beautiful. With views from every window over the water the cottage is small but very definitely perfectly formed. The only slight inconvenience is the need to park quite a way from the cottage once you have unloaded but who cares when you are staying in as magical a place as Mousehole. The cottage is very well equipped and the wood burner is wonderful when the Cornish weather decides to declare itself! Mousehole itself has a variety of lovely places to eat and drink as does nearby Newlyn -a complete heaven for fish lovers. Cannot wait to come back

Mariners Cottage is situated in a very quiet position with uninterrupted sea views. The cottage is cosy and with the heaters on you dont really need to light the wood burner. The bedrooms are comfortable and the view out to sea when sitting in bed was delightful. It is beautifully decorated and it feels very homely with the art work and decoration. We would definitely return and highly recommend.

We absolutely loved staying at Mariner's Cottage. We were only two people which worked perfectly for us. I'm sure more organised and 'compact' people could cope with being more than two, but it is certainly perfect for a couple. It is a very thoughtfully furnished house with everything you need for a short stay. The location is sublime, with its little garden overlooking the sea and with a barely-four-minute walk into the "centre" of picturesque Mousehole. We happened to have our car with us (which you park a couple of minutes away) but honestly there is so much to see and do in the local area and the local bus is so reliable you could almost not bother with a car at all. We ate incredibly well in both Mousehole and nearby Newlyn and tried almost every restaurant in the area, of which there is an extensive and excellent selection. Whilst Mousehole is undoubtedly a superbly pretty and friendly village (we loved the early week craft market and pretty much every shop and restaurant we visited!) we also fell in love with grittier Newlyn with its fresh fish shops and Coddiwomple which sells fabulous slipware and artwork. We also felt that the historic centre of Penzance was well worth a look (and enjoyed buying huge woolly pullies from Tam O'Shanter), had a great day in St Ives and discovered many fine coastal walks. The whole week couldn't have been better and we can't wait to go back.

A place to recharge

Mariners Cottage is a lovely little hideaway in a very peaceful location. The front garden which looks out over the ocean is a fantastic place to sit quietly and let your mind empty itself of all the baggage you brought with you on holiday. I could spend hours listening to and watching the waves crashing against the rocks below you. The house itself is cosy and very comfortable and the beds are fantastic. Mouse hole hasnt changed much in 40 years and still retains its character and reclusiveness which makes it such a peaceful place to stay. The restaurants are great and the Delhis serve great food albeit at a price ! I certainly hope to come back again.

What a special, special cottage this is...

My adult daughter and I spent 5 days at the cottage and loved every minute of it. The cottage is beautifully furnished and equipped, and the location is heavenly. You can look across at Mousehole, but you're at the end of a pathway, enjoying stunning sea views, sunrises and sunsets. The seals amble around the corner and the seagulls all settle on the island in front. The garden space is lovely and we both loved the high bar table with stools to get a breakfast bar vibe looking right our across the rocks and sea. It's really a very special cottage to stay in. We went off to explore the surrounding area, which is a beautiful part of Cornwall, but we were always happy to get back to the cottage and light the woodturner - putting our feet up, chilling, reading, having a glass of wine and watching the sun go down. Charming and well designed 2 BR spot right on the waters edge. Enjoy coffee in the morning sun on the front veranda and beers for happy hour. Spacious master bath. Tight staircase and top floor bedroom has little room on the sides of the bed. Decor was well done. Laundry in unit. No traffic as its a pedestrian path. Its a sweet spot.

One of the loveliest cottages to stay in

You cant fault this cottage its so special to wake up in the morning to the sea which is right there and the village mousehole a short stroll, so bobbing down to the Delhi isnt a chore to get things in for breakfast etc. parking wasnt an issue for us we parked in the harbour which cost us £5 a day, we thought very reasonable. In fact we didnt drive the car the whole week we were there, we count the local bus which passes through mousehole every 15 mins and takes you to Newlyn and Penzance or you can easily walk to either quite easily. We didnt struggle to find anywhere to eat probably some of the best sea food you can get. The cottage is in the best location in Mousehole. Very clean, beautifully styled and up-to date with everything you need for a clean comfortable stay. Thank you.
