Overview

Beautifully restored and converted, Rest House forms an idyllic retreat in one of Cornwall’s most beautiful coastal locations and is perfect for couples seeking time away for relaxation, peace and quiet.

Small yet flawlessly proportioned, the property has everything you’ll need to feel completely comfortable during your stay. What makes Rest House really unique however is the quality of the building’s restoration, its tastefully styled interior, and the sense of space created outside by the walled courtyard garden where you’ll be able to eat or drink alfresco in the sunshine.

When the weather’s wet you can curl up with a good book on the sofa or cosy up next to the wood-burner which even has a small oven on top for you to warm fresh locally made pasties for lunch. The clean and contemporary bathroom with a its large walk-in shower is great for de-sanding in after the beach and if you feel like rustling up your own holiday fare the amply equipped bijou kitchen has all you’ll need for it. An inviting double bed completes the space and with its deep mattress and crisp bedding, you’ll be tempted to enjoy numerous long morning lie-ins before setting off to explore the nearby coast paths, beaches and historic sites of the area.

And speaking of beaches, a handful of Cornwall’s best lie on the doorstep. Famed for their white sands, beautiful boulder formations and water of a staggering shade of turquoise, Porthcurno and Pedn Vounder are an absolute must-visit, as is the lesser known but beautifully unspoilt beach of Nanjizal which can be found less than 1.5 miles from the barn. Close by too is the iconic Minack Theatre which perches on a cliff above the sea, and here you’ll be able to take in an open-air production, music concert or festival, depending on the theatre’s programming.

Great location for walks
3.8/5

We've stayed here before so knew what to expect from The Rest House. Great location for coastal walks from Porthgwarra, Treen, Mousehole etc. Compact accomodation but if your out and about this isn't an issue. I would add there was an issue with woodlice - the owner did acknowledge this and the seals on the door were being replaced but there were lots of them. TBH for me there are some issues people should be aware of - sounds petty but worthy of note. It is small and if the weather wasn't good you would be a bit cramped. It is also a bit light at night from the ceiling window and lights on radiators and smoke alarm. We had to take the batteries out of what must be the noisiest clock in the world and the fridge is very noisy and kicks in throughout the night. I only mention these because it is a great little place, with parking and a great base - but not somewhere if you are looking for a place where you might want to stay in and relax with a book all day etc

Hi Jeremy, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review regarding your stay at The Rest House. It’s always helpful to hear from guests who have stayed before. We agree that The Rest House is in the prime location for exploring the stunning coastal walks. Whilst the accommodation is compact it seems like this did not effect your stay as you were out most exploring! It is good to hear that the owner acknowledged the woodlice issue and was taking steps to address this. You rightly point out that if the weather isn’t favourable, the small space might feel a bit cramped. But hey, when the sun is shining, it’s all about the great outdoors! We appreciate the comments regarding the ceiling window and radiator lights. Ah, the noisy clock a common culprit! Removing the batteries was a smart move. As for the fridge, it seems to have a nocturnal personality. Best wishes, The Luxury Coastal Team

The Rest House is Restful
4.5/5

We enjoyed our stay. Would not describe our accommodation as “luxury”. Damp was coming through on the external wall by the bed after rain and the outdoor furniture and outside area was a bit unkept. The house is well appointed and fitted out.

The perfect place to stay in Porthcurno
5/5

We love the area and have visited on many occasions. Our usual go to place wasn’t taking bookings anymore so we was looking for somewhere near to stay and the rest house was perfect for what we wanted. It is small and compact but that is what we like! The rest house has everything you need for a holiday, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with a great shower, comfortable bed, a seated outdoor area and parking spot. What I think made the rest house stand out to other places Iv stayed was that you can tell the owner has spent money on it and hasn’t opted for all the cheaper options like most rental accommodations. Rashmir also brought us a bottle of fizz to congratulate us on our marriage as we had just got married the week before and was on our honey moon (if you can call it that with an 8 month old baby!) Would highly recommend the accommodation and will definitely stay again.

Bethany, 30 Jun 2023

Hi Bethany, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are so pleased to hear you had a lovely stay and honeymoon and we will be sure to pass on your thanks to Rashmir as well. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day. Best wishes, the Luxury Coastal team.

A fantastic place to access some of cornwall best beaches
5/5

we booked The Rest House for our Honeymoon and we weren't disappointed. We had the most relaxing time with the property being in an ideal location to access some of cornwall's amazing beaches.Porthcurmo was only 2 miles away. The property has all you need for a base and is has everything you need for a holiday. even providing milk and tea bags to make that much needed cuppa after a long drive. The property has an enclosed walled courtyard which is an absolute sun trap ideal for those evening ciders. With so many great places to eat a short drive away we didn't even need to cook! conveniently at the end of the lane you can catch the Lands end coaster bus. definitely on our list for a revisit

Denise, 13 Jun 2023

Damp & full of wood lice
2.5/5

Lovely project for the owners but you have to walk in front of their house to access the property! If you’re a smoker you can’t smoke anywhere near as the LPG top up is in the courtyard (no bar-bq then) damp and riddled with wood lice! Next to an abandoned graveyard! You can cook but in a huge microwave, very complicated as when I eventually worked out how to use it on oven mode there were no shelves but could use racks!! Left a day early! Totally mis-sold very disappointed! Not worth the money people. Who graded this??

Andy, 13 Feb 2023

Hi Andy, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I am so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your recent stay. We always wish that our guests reach out to us during their stay with any concerns so that we might be able to rectify these as soon as possible but unfortunately as we didn't hear from you during your holiday we were not able to assist at the time. I will however reach out to you via email now if you wish to discuss this further. All of our properties are non smoking. This property in particular has a combination microwave oven with instructions in the guest information folder however we will review these to ensure the instructions are clear. Thank you for bringing the wood louse to our attention which we have passed on to the property owner so they can rectify this in the building alongside any damp concerns which I am sure you can appreciate is a common concern in granite buildings in Cornwall in the winter. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, without it we can not continue to improve and grow. Best wishes, Lois, Luxury Coastal
