Overview
Set over two floors, Swan’s Nest offers an attractive master bedroom with shower room on its ground floor, and a terrific open plan living room with kitchen and dining on the first. The upper floor makes the most of its beautiful views over the ley, and a chaise positioned under the window means guests have the perfect spot from which to enjoy them.
Designed with comfort in mind, the cottage is both stylish and well kitted-out. The bedroom is attractively furnished with a king size bed and lots of storage, the bathroom is contemporary with a double walk-in cubicle, and the kitchen has a full range of appliances including a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There’s a big flat screen TV in the lounge for evening entertainment, and of course plenty of space to relax and unwind in after days spent out exploring the coast.
Torcross is uniquely positioned on the Devonshire coastline, with the village splicing the landscape between its freshwater Ley and its 3-mile shingle beach. There are beautiful walks in the area including the scenic coast path route to Beesands, Hallsands and Start Point. Virtually equidistant from the towns of Dartmouth and Kingsbridge there’s plenty to see and do. Waterborn SUP on the Kingsbridge Estuary offers paddleboarding excursions for all ages and abilities, and the town is awash with antique shops, art galleries, and gift shops. In the opposite direction on the River Dart, the historic naval town of Dartmouth is crammed with first-class restaurants and riverside eateries. Visitors can enjoy day trips around its Royal Naval College as well as perusing its boutiques and independent shops.
Torcross itself is home to the seafront Start Bay Inn, so for a good old fashioned pub lunch (the battered cod and chip is huge) it’s ideal. Slightly further afield but not by much, Stokeley Farm Shop is a great spot for stocking up on locally made gifts and homegrown produce. They also serve a delicious full English and fresh wood-fired pizzas but be sure to get there early as it’s popular!

Please note that from 7th September 2026 until June 2027 the nearby public Tank Car Park will be out of action. You will still have a parking permit for parking in the opposite car park though.
From 7th September - 17th October, sea defence operations work will be set up in the Tank Car Park, some noise will be heard during this time.
From 17th October, sea defence work to Torcross Sea Front will commence. The work will be dependent on the tides, with the rocks being placed when the tide is low, in a 25 metre stretch from the sea wall out to sea. The rock armour defence will be built in 5 metre sections within the low tide windows starting at the southern end (where At The Beach apartments are located), working in parallel along the beach towards the northern end slipway.
Completion of works is estimated for Spring 2027 time. It will take approximately 4-5 months to complete the main rock armour, so the works will be ongoing over the autumn and winter months, with the area around the car park and slipway. We anticipate that this will likely create additional noise in the area. You won't be able to see the works happening but the works will likely have some noise impact. Welcome to Torcross
There’s nothing like a seaside village with plenty to discover. Torcross is home to spectacular scenery, a friendly community and a fascinating history. If you’re dreaming of days spent in flip flops, you’re going to fall in love with the three-mile sandy beach that seems to roll on forever. There are plenty of tranquil trails for the walkers, and everything just feels calm and spacious all year round.

A lovely property in Torcross, with a stunning view of the ley. The house is 'upside down' in that the sleeping quarters are downstairs and the living area is upstairs with large windows overlooking the ley. It has a very well furnished kitchen, a comfortable bedroom and very relaxing living area.

Excellent inside and out

Swan's Nest is a fabulous place to stay. The views of Slapton Ley are incredible. We could quite happily sit on the very comfortable sofa for hours watching the swans and ducks. We even saw an otter from the window. The comfort and standard inside is very high and we could not ask for more. However location is everything. Stepping outside, in seconds you are either at the sea or the ley. A short walk up steps and you have a breathtaking view of both. Within a very short walk, there are two cafes and a pub serving excellent fish and chips. A little further round the ley, Stokeley Farm has a very good shop and, even better, a brewery and bar. Just outside Swan's Nest there are bus stops that will take you to Dartmouth or Kingsbridge. A further bus will take you to Salcombe. All three are well worth a visit. Parking across from Swan's Nest was very easy. This was a property and location that far exeeded expectation. We would like to thank Jane and her family for making such an exceptional home-from-home.
