Overview

With its elegant interior, period features and position just moments away from the town's pretty pebble beach and high street, Poplar Cottage creates an idyllic retreat on Devon's east coast; equally suited to blissful family holidays and luxury stays. Recently renovated to an exceptional standard, the house which has been professionally styled, flows effortlessly between its two floors, offering guests light and airy downstairs living, and spacious bedrooms above. Combining old-world glamour with up-to-date chic, an original staircase, sash windows and ornate fireplaces juxtapose contemporary furnishings and tasteful accessories, all basking in the floods of natural daylight that stream in from virtually every angle.

The ground floor kitchen and open plan dining room have a touch of French farmhouse. The centre-piece Aga cooker invites guests to roast or bake to their hearts’ content.There are doors leading outside to the secluded courtyard garden, where family meals can be shared and enjoyed. To the opposite side of the hallway the sitting room has two separate seating areas with a large comfortable corner sofa at the far end and a snug with gas fire and desk area at the other. There is also a ground floor cloakroom and utility area housing a washing machine and separate tumble dryer.

The property’s three bedrooms comfortably accommodate six and offer versatile sleeping configurations, so families and groups of friends are able to request an arrangement that suits. The Master bedroom with super king bed enjoys a sea glimpse and has an en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath, while the remaining two bedrooms share a family bathroom complete with bath and separate shower.

Poplar Cottage has a sunny west-facing walled courtyard garden which is a wonderful place for savouring an afternoon drink or two, and an outdoor dining suite along with charcoal BBQ means alfresco feasts can be enjoyed. Private off-street parking for one car can be found to the back of the cottage which is situated on Fore Street Hill just metres from both the high street and the beach.

    Security Deposit: We ask our guests for a £150 good housekeeping bond, which is pre-authorised against your card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved (held as a pending transaction) and then released afterwards if there is no damage or additional cleaning. This will be held on the card on file 7 days prior to your arrival.

    Wi-Fi: This property offers free Wi-Fi for guests, however, we cannot guarantee the speed and connectivity. Therefore, if you are planning to work during your holiday, we recommend bringing a wifi dongle.
    Smoking: All of our properties are non-smoking and we ask that any party member who smokes, do so off the premises.
    Additional Extras: Please note that due to the warm weather, the Aga is switched off during July and August. It will be switched back on in September (weather-dependent).

    Living Room
    Located on the ground floor, this elegant double aspect room features a large sash window at one end and glass French doors at the other. The room has been designed to create two areas – a sumptuous sitting room and a snug with workspace. The sitting room is furnished with large sofa, a coffee table, upholstered ottomans and a flat screen TV on a stand as well as a Sonos speaker. The snug features two armchairs, an original fireplace, a desk, chair and fabulous distressed sideboard. Other furnishings include several occasional tables, table lamps and mirrors

    *Please note that due to the sofa’s position, there is no access to the garden through the doors

  • Kitchen & Dining
    Kitchen
    Also on ground floor, the beautiful kitchen has access to the courtyard garden and features granite worktops and a kitchen island with two stools (which doubles as a breakfast bar). Taking pride of place is the gorgeous black Aga* which sits alongside a range of appliances including a microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The kitchen is well-equipped and small appliances are also supplied which include a kettle, toaster, cafetiere, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board

    *Please note that due to the warm weather the Aga is switched off during July and August. It will be switched back on in September (weather depending). The two-ring induction hob, combination microwave oven and BBQ are available for cooking.

    Dining Room
    Open plan with the kitchen, the dining room has a lovely, leafy outlook and is furnished with a round dining table and four chairs, with additional stools that can provide seating for up to six. There is also a sideboard with Sonos speaker, ornamental fireplace, Chesterfield armchair and reading light

    Master Bedroom
    This gorgeous en-suite room has large sash windows with stunning views to the front of the house and sea glimpses. Furnished with a super king size bed, built-in wardrobes, full length mirror, an upholstered bench seat and pedestal tables with wall-mounted reading lights. A hairdryer is provided

    Bedroom Two
    Spacious, elegant and beautifully styled the second bedroom is also positioned to the front of the house and is furnished with a super king size bed that can be unzipped to form twin beds. The original ornamental fireplace adds even more charm, and other furniture includes a chest of drawers, an armchair, a free-standing wardrobe, mirror, bedside tables and bedside lamps. A hairdryer is provided

    Bedroom Three
    The double-aspect third bedroom boasts a blush pink scheme with William Morris inspired prints and is positioned to the back of the house. It is furnished with twin beds that can be zipped and linked to form a super king size bed. Other furniture includes a chest of drawers, an armchair, integrated wardrobe, mirror, bedside table and bedside lamps. A hairdryer is provided

    Family Bathroom
    Located on first floor, the bathroom has a bathtub and hand basin as well as a separate walk-in shower cubicle rain head attachment and hand-held shower. Mirror, heated towel rail and WC.

    Bathroom two
    En suite to Master Bedroom, this room has a bath with overhead shower hand-held attachment. The hand basin is sunken into a marble countertop with cupboards and a laundry basket below. The room has a large mirror, heated towel rail, bidet and WC.

    A separate cloakroom can be found on the ground floor with WC, basin and mirror

    To the back of the house is a private, walled courtyard garden which features raised bed with trees, shrubs, climbers and flowers. The raised paved patio portion is furnished with a dining table, six chairs and a parasol. A charcoal BBQ is provided for al-fresco cooking.

    Off-road parking for one car can be found to the back of the property and an EV charger, which is located on the wall in the courtyard next to the carport. It is an Easee One charger with a universal Type 2 socket. To use the charger you will need to register using the QR code in the Welcome pack. Payment will be taken via a credit card you register through the payment system. You will need to use your own charging cable.
    Additional parking is available within walking distance from the house either on-street or in short and long stay car parks
